Weekly activities to entertain and inspire at the RRS Discovery, with artist Lauren Herd. Each week we’ll have a different theme inspired by objects and artworks in our collections.

 

Mon 2 / Budding boat builders: Design, build and decorate your very own boat – then see if it floats! Will it be seaworthy or will it be a sinking ship?

Mon 9 / Navigate the night sky! Make your own star chart keepsake as we select and map a section of the night sky. You’ll also make a star wheel to use when you’re stargazing at home!

Mon 16 / Antarctic artworks: Try your hand at marbling onto card and create an icy Antarctic landscape or polar seascape collage using your imagination!

Mon 23 / Make and design your own field journal! Inspired by the Discovery Investigations, with a little imagination and a lot of creative flair, bind your own simple journal, adding compartments, details and space to chronicle your discoveries on your own adventures!

Mon 30 / Under the sea! Set an underwater scene in your own sea-globe. Imagine the quiet ocean floor with sand, shells and even a sunken ship – then give it a whirl to see an underwater storm descend!

Mon 6 / The final frontier: Take inspiration from the Discovery Space Shuttle which launched the Hubble Telescope into orbit as you make and decorate your own telescope, then create intergalactic artworks inspired by galaxies, nebulas and outer space!
