16 July - 13 October, 2016FREE admission
Stunning photography by Neil Barr who has travelled over 30,000 miles around Scotland and taken over 60,000 shots in his quest to capture the Scottish landscape. Recently Highly Commended in this year’s Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, he is also currently shortlisted in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards.
After losing his web design business of nearly 20 years due to ill health and stress, Neil took up landscape photography simply as a means to get out and about whilst he figured out what to do with the next chapter of his life.
Since then he has travelled over 30,000 miles around Scotland and taken over 60,000 shots in his quest to capture the Scottish landscape, learning as he went; Often camping out at the top of mountains for days, usually in atrocious weather, or standing in the pouring rain for hours waiting for that one brief moment that makes it all worthwhile.
In a very short period he quickly picked up national and international photography awards and secured a number of group and solo exhibitions as far ahead as 2018. Along the way he ran a successful crowdfunding campaign raising funds for new camera equipment and began selling his prints internationally. Although he still considers himself a newcomer to photography, due to requests, he now provides landscape photography tuition.
Neil Barr was born in Glasgow, but grew up in Inverclyde and Ayrshire. He studied Fine Art Printmaking at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen before running a successful web marketing
agency for nearly 20 years. After leaving the business, Neil bought his first DSLR in Sept 2014 and only took up photography as a hobby to occupy his mind whilst he figured out what to do with the next phase of his life.
With no prior training or experience in photography, in a very short period he went on to gain praise and many national and international awards for his work and was recently awarded Highly Commended in this year’s Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition and is currently shortlisted in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards.
