Discovery Point is looking forward to hosting Katherine MacInnes, author of Snow Widows: The Untold History of Scott’s Fatal Antarctic Expedition Through the Eyes of the Women They Left Behind.
The British Antarctic Expedition (1910 – 1913), based on the Dundee-built ship Terra Nova, is chiefly remembered for the deaths of some of the world’s best-known polar explorers, including Captain Robert Falcon Scott and Lawrence Oates.
Using never-before-seen archive material, MacInnes offers a fresh perspective on the race to the South Pole, vividly depicting the lives, loves, and losses of the women forced into the public eye by tragedy and shaped by the unrelenting culture of empire.
Come along to discover what these (hitherto invisible) women meant to the men and how they came to be custodians of the unofficial, true story.
Tickets available via Dundee Heritage Trust Eventbrite. Spaces are filling up fast, so book your ticket today!
